Dinner, Please
Dinner, Please!
A Roguelike Dungeon Diner Sim –> Feed the Beasts, Fill the Scale!
The Canteen
You’re the lonely chef at the monster diner in a dungeon. Every night a queue of hungry creatures slides up to your counter and they all have very specific tastes.
Each customer comes with a hunger scale to fill. Use your limited hand of ingredient cards to feed them meals, trigger combos, and push that scale to at least 80%. Fail to feed them well, and your restaurant rating drops. Run out of cards, and you’ll have to pay with your reputation.
Watch out for visual clues: yellow monsters hate cheese, horned beasts despise sweets, and brown customers will throw a fit if you dare serve a burger!
Menu and Features
- Card Combos: Play ingredient cards (Meal, Snack, Sweet) to form recipes. Bread + Meal = +30 hunger; Solo Burger = 3× multiplier; Steak pair = +1× and many more.
- Monster Traits: Each customer has a colour and may have horns. These secretly tell their preferences. Check the helpful info menu to the left side on the camera.
- Hunger Scale: This is the core and theme of the game. Every meal’s hunger points fill a vertical gauge. Reach at least 80% to satisfy the monster.
- Roguelike Runs: 5 days, 20 customers. Limited deck. Buy permanent upgrades between days: extra multiplier, bigger deck, deck shuffling & peeking.
- KenneyNL & KayKit Art: All visuals are from the free, iconic asset packs, 3D cards, low‑poly monsters, cosy diner environment.
Chef's Tutorial: How to Run the Diner
Welcome, new chef! Your goal is to survive 5 nights feeding hungry monsters. Each night has 3‑5 customers. You'll use a deck of ingredient cards to feed them meals and fill their hunger scales.
1. The Deck and Stack (Hand)
- You start with a deck of 10 cards (which you can increase using upgrades). Cards have a type: Meal, Snack, or Sweet.
- You always hold 5 cards in your stack. After playing, you draw back up to 5. Any unused card stays in the stack
- If the deck and your hand run out, you can't feed remaining customers, and you'll lose ratings!
2. The Customer and Their Preferences
- Each monster has a hunger scale that you must fill to at least 80%.
- Monsters also have visual traits that dictate hidden food rules:
- Colour: e.g., Yellow hates Cheese, Brown hates Burgers, Blue loves Snacks, Green likes heavy meals, Red adores Sweets.
- Horns: Horned monsters dislike sweets (gives a penalty). No horns means no special rule.
- Ignore these rules, and you'll get a strike (lose 1 health) at the end of the meal!
3. Building a Meal (Combos)
- Select the cards from the stack and click on the Feed button.
- The game checks for card combos. Here are some of the best:
Bread + any Meal = +30 hunger*Full combo list is displayed during the game.
Solo Burger = +1× multiplier
Cake + another Sweet = +0.5×
Cheese + Bread + Meal = +0.75x
Chicken + Sweet = +0.5×
Fries + Burger = +50 hunger, +1×
Pizza = +20 hunger to every other Meal card
2 Steaks = +1×
Stew (2+ types) = +0.5×
Taco + exactly 1 Sweet = +1.5× - Your final hunger = (sum of card hunger + bonuses) × multiplier.
4. After Serving
- The scale fills, and you'll see if the monster is happy (80%+) or sad (<80%). Sad customers cost 1 rating.
- If your ratings hits 0, the diner closes!
- After the meal, the monster leaves, and the next one arrives. Continue until the day ends.
5. End of Day and Upgrades
- At the end of each day, you can buy permanent upgrades with the coins you earned:
- Multiplier+ – adds +0.5× to all future meals
- Bigger Hand – increase deck by 3 cards
- Shuffle – reshuffle your remaining deck
- Peek – look at the top card of the deck
- Choose wisely, they make later nights possible!
Pro tip: Plan your combos. Save cards for picky eaters, and use the Cheese/Bread/Meal combo to soften a tough customer ahead!
